When creating the resin patch for your shower or tub wall there should be simple instructions in the kit.
Need to patch wall in bathroom.
The cement board should be the same thickness as the drywall for example 1 2 inch thick cement board if the drywall is the standard 1 2 inch thickness.
If not all you have to do is mix up the compound and hardener.
Place the patch over the hole and pencil its outline on the damaged wall.
Using a putty knife you are going to apply the resin to the hole.
Draw an x on the wall above the hole and an arrow on the patch that points at the x so you ll know how to orient the patch in step 6.
Upon having the tiles replaced in this bathroom i decided it was time to tackle this ceiling once and for all with the proper products that would repair.
Attach at least one furring strip 1 by 3 inch piece of wood to the back of the existing drywall with 1 5 8 inch drywall screws unless the drywall you ve removed has exposed at least two wall studs.
Keep going until you cannot feel any seams between the patch and the existing wall.
Sand your patch area smooth.
You will need something solid to attach the new drywall patch to so extend the furring strip well past the margins of the missing drywall.
You ll need enough luan baseboard and lip molding to cover your damaged walls.
The kits will have the resin needed to create a durable patch on your shower or tub wall.
Keep applying thin layers until they are feathered out and smooth.
Once dry sand your patch as needed with a 220 grit sandpaper.
Use a drill to affix the patch in place.
This can vary from space to space.
Allow your patch to dry which should take at least 24 hours.
You may need to remove a larger section of drywall to repair rotted.
Find a scrap of drywall that s the same thickness as the damaged drywall and cut out a square cornered patch big enough to cover the hole.
If exposed studs or wall bottom plate are rotted cut these sections away and install new 2 by 4 or 2 by 6 studs to repair it.
For us the luan panels had to sit on top of the baseboard in order to reach far enough up the wall to cover all the damaged areas.
In a small bowl mix 4 parts joint compound and 1 part water.
Cut and install a cement board patch next you will cut and install a cement board patch to fit the area where the drywall is removed.
This meant we had to buy a little wider baseboard as well.
